Protesting to the San Francisco Chronicle that Pogonip Polo Club is in Santa Cruz and not in Monterey as Chronicle sports writers indicated in recent polo stories, Fred W. Swanton, former Santa Cruz mayor, wrote the following letter to the editor of the San Francisco paper:

Editor, The Chronicle--Sir: Pogonip is in Santa Cruz, California. Your article in the Sporting Green of your Sunday edition, July 24, gave Monterey the credit of possessing this place with its wonderful setting.

The name "Pogonip" is derived from the Indians, meaning "a spot where the sun shines first." That is a fact; one will find the sun shining through when we have the fog below. It is only 10 minutes' ride from our wonderful bathing beach. Why not give Santa Cruz credit due it, for we are on the sunny side of Monterey bay?
